Rock, Paper, Puppies!
Sep. 5th, 2006 03:47 pm Progress Report, Day 5-9/100
Since it was the holiday weekend, I took a break from posting (that's my excuse anyway). But I did not take a break from the 100!
I had a ton of house stuff to do over the holiday weekend. All of it was accomplished except giving my puppy a bath. *poor stinky boy* Not that he minds a bit. He doesn't hate it, but he's not a huge fan of baths either. After all it means he has to stop running around, playing with toys and making all the mischief that puppies love to make.
I did work Saturday morning on writing – mostly revising (a.k.a. the necessary evil).
For the rest of the month my Saturdays look bleak. And Sundays look even bleaker as a make-up workday. It seems everyone I know and the dog has planned either a wedding, anniversary, shower, birthday, concert, party or other miscellaneous event for the month of September. All I have to say is spread the love to the other months people – please! *LOL*
Not to worry. I'll survive. I've already met the goals I set for the month, but I won't get a lot extra done. I'll be too busy going to *par-tay* for the rest of September. *let's dance*

I drafted a cover letter for a sub. And I only counted the creative parts, not the standard "I look forward to hearing from you blah blah blah." Not the most fun, but it has to be done sometime.

Aug. 29th, 2006 10:01 pm Progress Report, Day 1/100
I know you've been waiting for my official report (a girl can dream, can't she). I did it. Day one is a success. A success despite an unexpected trip to the hospital.
Don't worry. I did not hurt myself in pursuit of my goal. I took my Mom to visit a friend who she just found out was admitted over the weekend. I found a quiet place in the solarium, so they could talk as long as they wanted without me cramping their style.
I counted my words by hand to make sure I fulfilled. Writing longhand does have its disadvantages. Wrote a couple of new poems. Also started revising a short kids poem that might make a cute picture book.
I must be in a poem mood this week. That's what I worked on last Saturday (even though I had originally planned to work on my novel). But it's all good. Both projects are part of my "master plan." *evil laughter*
Now what about day two? You have to wait for it!

Aug. 23rd, 2006 10:46 am I Want to Score…A Perfect 100!
I've done it. I've joined the Club 100. The very strict taskmistress c_moonshower made me do it. *airkiss*
It's a good opportunity for me to stop whining and accomplish some daily writing (after already writing 5049 plus words for my day job – not including e-mails). It will also help quelch my writing guilt for not getting anything done during the week. It's a win-win situation. *yay for me*
Now a couple of you might be wondering ('cause I can say that now since I have some readers – yay!) what is this Club 100 thing she is babbling about. If you haven't read the comments, you might have missed Candie's explanation of it. So here's mine. *so original*
Basically, you commit to writing 100 words a day for 100 days. That's it. It's that simple. Yet, so achievable. *genius* At the end of the 100 days, you'll have 10,000 words.
For more info on the Club 100, check out this site.
My start date is Monday, August 28, 2006 ('cause who wants to start in the middle of the week). That's when I will start tracking my progress. Look here for my mini-progress report the day after. I can feel your excitement!
Join me if you dare. It will be fun!
100 or die! *so dramatic*

I'm starting to bore myself here (and I'm the lone reader of all this) *so pathetic*
I have a confession to make. I'm a reality TV junkie. And I'm proud of it!
I love to watch reality TV. What can I say, I'm of that "Real World" generation. If it's been on, then I've watched it at least once. Except for the really new shows on cable (and there are a lot of 'em). I don't have cable. *gasp* But I keep up with what's going on.
That said, I do have a friend tape "Project Runway." *iheartTimGunn* It is THE show to watch. And the only one this summer that is delivering the goods.
I'm a little under-whelmed this year with the other summer offerings. They are watchable, but not so interesting.
"Big Brother All-Stars" is a showcase of lame strategy. I don't care who wins.
"RockStar: SuperNova" is mainly boring (minus about 4). *supernova* Where is Marty Casey when you need him? *iheartmarty*
"Treasure Hunters" showed promise as the next AR, but fizzled. Who are these people? My puppy has more ingenuity than most of them (he'd be DA BOMB of a partner if escape artist, chewing, destruction, jumping, looking innocent and evading your mommy were tasks)!

Aug. 11th, 2006 09:08 am The Plan Is THE Thing!
Anything that helps me focus, is a good thing.
Last weekend, I set some writing goals for the year. Sounds impressive. It's not all that. Nothing too major. Much of it is generic stuff like: Post in blog once a month.
I usually set monthly goals. But this time I did it for the year too. I list any deadlines for submissions, contests, etc. I look at what I want to work on, what I should work on, etc. It keeps me a little more focused on what projects need priority.
I'm so wishy-washy sometimes. *look at the pretty colors* I work on multiple projects at once, probably a habit from working in newspaper. It can be a good thing. It can also be the kiss of death. I'm used to having a load of things going on, but stuff needs to get finished. Setting goals helps me stay more focused.
I like to be very productive, even when it hurts. *over-achiever alert* And that's why right now it hurts. I'm not as productive as I want to be (I'd like some cheese with my *whine*).
I know I'll achieve some, if not most of the goals I set. *pardon me if I brag* But I don't beat myself up over it. It's a guide for me to go by. If I veer off a little, it's cool. *driving without directions can get you so lost*
Here's to a productive year (look Ma, I already fulfilled part of my first goal — two posts in one month)! *go me*

Aug. 7th, 2006 12:04 pm The Whack-A-Doodle Writing Blues
I have a quandary that plagues many out there – finding time to write.
The reason? I write for my day job, which presents challenges for my own writing. It's not that I can't write once I get home. All my creative energy goes into my work writing. Little is left over.
Saturday is the day for my own work. And Sunday. As a result, there goes my life. *plaintive wave as it passes me by* I'm willing to sacrifice, even my own sanity if need be. *hahahahahahaha* It hasn't gone so well for me this way. With this schedule, I'm not as productive as I'd like.
My plan is to get up early a couple of days a week to write. (can we say 4 a.m.) Things have been whack-a-doodle crazy over the last few months. Each time I decide to start, something else comes up (convenient, isn't it).
I'm sure for many this doesn't pose a problem. You can write all day. And come home and do it too. I don't like you (just kidding). *airkiss*
I need to try something new. I'd love to hear any thoughts or suggestions from those out there experiencing the same thing. Or those who've found a solution that works.
So I'll see how it all goes and keep you updated. This is the start of my LJ! *par-tay* I've never been one to keep a diary or journal going – this is a new test for me too.
